Good Co - Home [Official Music Video]

Filmed at ‘The Ruins’, an eccentric mansion in the heart of Seattle,
Good Co partnered with filmmaker Skye Warden of Clockwork Productions
and visual designer John Theroux (Blazinspace) to play with space,
light, and dimension to create an otherworldly theme for their new
single “Home” off of their upcoming album ‘So Pretty’.

That mythical place called “Home”, can one ever really make their way
back? As we grow and change in our lives the concept of home becomes a
touchstone, but in reality, doesn’t it change as well, frequently in
ways that aren’t always so readily apparent?  In Good Co’s newest single
these questions are explored.

Good Co. is North America’s first and only live Electro Swing band. Their fourth, self-produced album So Pretty
is chockfull of all the exciting and juicy sounds known in the
international genre that has spawned new artists as diverse and
danceable as Caravan Palace, Parov Stelar, and Yolanda be Cool.

The
Seattle band came about from Carey Rayburn inviting his friends to take
part in his new music project.  The album title reflects this of them
throwing and playing for “a dance party and feeling bad ass about
yourself,” Rayburn says. So Pretty also sums up who they often
play live with, “a lot of burlesque, boylesque, and drag performers, and
we wanted to embody a bit of their swagger for the album.”

The
ambitious array of musicianship in Good Co. is made up of Rayburn on
vocals, trumpet, ukulele, synths; Jacob Sele on keys, vocals,
percussion, whistle, and trombone; Benjamin Verdier on electric and
upright bass; Joseph Eck on drums and percussion; Peter Daniel on
saxophone; Sasha Nollman and Shannon O’Bent on vocals; rounded out by
Rex Gregory on clarinet and Matt Williams on guitar. So Pretty
was recorded at Recorded at Deep Well Studio by TJ Morris, mixed by Don
Gunn at The Office, and mastered by Ed Brooks at Resonant Mastering.

Good Co.’s inspired take on the percolating genre nimbly mixes
contemporaneous engagements of house, hip-hop, and EDM with the
horn-infused swing of timeless performers like Fats Waller, Duke
Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Benny Goodman to bring the entire 20th
and 21st century so far to the dance floor. It is cunning and
irresistible listening for new music fans who crave both innovation and
tradition, from these raucous jazz, soul, funk, rock, and pop
musicians.

With origins in the dark basement of a small Emerald City home,
Rayburn began making multi-genre compositions transcending his usual
role as a trumpet player for other groups. “Writing my own music gave me
something I could control in my life,” he says, “something that was
mine.” A friend and fellow music fan had introduced Rayburn to the
burgeoning European Electro Swing scene, which gave him the feel of a
fresh direction for his unbound creativity, appealing to his fandoms for
both electronica and jazz. Due to playing in many different kinds of
groups around Seattle, he knew just who to call to assemble the band to
introduce Electro Swing to the States.

Starting with sounds of the Roaring 20s and absorbing the swing of
following decades to land as it folds into today’s electronic funk, So Pretty is always invigorating with songs that are often lyrically a little bit dark.

Rayburn wrote most of the album save for the title track which was
co-authored by Sele. Key tracks include the party-starting “Come Alive,”
“Home” (“about trying to get home to your love”), and “Shout” — which
is about, as Rayburn puts it, “coming into one’s own, realizing your
strength, and moving forward.”

Various other notable tracks on the album include “Beggin’,” which
they’ve performed live for years “and were really excited to finally
record it because it’s such a dope song”; and their version of “St.
James Infirmary,” their second take on it with additional production
help from Andrew Miller. There’s also a couple of quirky ukulele numbers
thrown in for fun as well (‘Monkey and Me’ and ‘Sweet Marie’).

Good Co. are shaping up plans for a West Coast tour in the spring
after the album is released, featuring their live performances mixed
with the sounds of yesterday along with a few surprises in between. That
unique sound has come together perfectly on their fourth record — so
sit back, order up a stiff one, and keep Good Co!
